Representation

Representation

For years girls have been presented as sexual objects, epically in  music videos and TV. It started off back in the day with Burlesque.  Burlesque dancing is a form of a strip tease, but back in the day stripping was less intense. During Burlesque dancing they would show their ankles which was very sexual in the 1920's and they used to also wear long gloves that would go up to the elbow and they would brush the arms in sexual ways. Overtime the boundary's have been pushed more and more. The reason for this is because sex sells and people will always pay to see sexual content. Music videos today a vertically soft pornography as seen below and probably should have content warnings before the video to stop young kids from watching the sexual content.

Keywords
Voyeurism - Erotic pleasure can be gained by looking at the sexual object (This is usually when the object us unaware that it's being watched)

Male Gaze - is when you add female nudity or sexual scenes to pleasure the men watching the video to give them sexual gratification. The reason artist choose this for their music videos is because sex will always sell and it will pump up the amount of views the music video will get due to it including sexually explicit material.

Exhibition - female performs being at once sexually provocative and is shown as inviting men sexually. This is the opposite of voyeurism.

Raunch Culture - a culture which promotes overtly sexual representations of women, as through the acceptance of pornography, stripping, nudity in advertising, etc, esp when this is encouraged by women.
